“I was inspired to paint this orchid by my many visits to Longwood Gardens. After personally viewing and studying the magnificent
Cattleya Alice B. duPont orchid, I became interested in the rich historical background associated with the woman behind the plant.
Alice B. duPont was the wife of Pierre S. duPont, renowned American industrialist, horticulturalist, philanthropist and innovator. Their
romance with horticulture was deeply intertwined with their intense love for each other which can still be experienced today through
the legacy of Longwood Gardens, in Kennett Square, PA. My portrayal of this stunning orchid, pays tribute to Alice B, a stately woman
of grand spirit and vitality, sophistication and elegance.”
