The following excerpts are thoughts, ideas and muses from the artist's journal:
"Every day is an exciting new beginning...an opportunity to break with the past and build upon it."
"Only by fixing one's gaze on the obvious can new possibilities become apparent."
" I see the world as a rich tapestry of texture and color. Multitudinous layers of repeating rhythms,  of
shapes and forces, cooperating and conflicting with one another. My painting is an implication of these
subliminal forces. I approach my canvases with reverse archaeological intent - to brush on the strata of
nature's layers."
Thoughts on Morning Glories For Marge:
"Presently pre-occupied with the many layers of being and how I might translate that into a dialog with
flowers as the language, I focused my attention on the Morning Glory. At first glance the Morning Glory
appears common, growing wild in many habitats, and to some a nuisance vine which if not reined in, will
overtake ones garden. I chose the flower for this reason, as I had an unsightly fence adjacent to the
house, which needed to be dressed or removed. With low expectations, I randomly threw the seeds at
the base of the fence and by mid-summer the neighbors were calling to compliment on my beautiful
fence. Each day as I walked from the house to my studio, the Morning Glories bewitched me to stop and
look at their overt beauty. Twisting vines rising upward into spiraling buds and then exploding into
intense trumpets of pure color, I was hooked. It was time to become more intimately acquainted with
this seductive flower.

With but a single day to bloom, the Morning Glory rises flamboyantly into the space between earth and
sky above intertwining tendrils, propelling itself forward to burst into florescence. Like exclamation points
on a page, these seemingly fragile blooms explode with vitality, in defiance of the brevity of their
existence. They enhance the space for that which takes their place, living triumphantly, passionately in
the here and now to perpetuate the species, disassociated from the concerns that anchor them to the
earth. For the Morning Glory, a day's existence might seem like a conflict. Quite the contrary. For the
Morning Glory, time is meaningless. In that one day, the flower is exuberant in its mission.

As always, nature's subliminal cues stimulate my thoughts to contemplate parallels within my own world.
I could not paint the strength, beauty and attributes of the Morning Glory without associating it with my
cousin, Marge, who is living each day passionately and courageously with cancer. In Morning Glories For
Marge, I hoped to communicate Marge's profound vitality.  She has always been an inspiration to me, a
free-spirited, powerful woman who recognizes her fears and transcends them, unselfishly creating
opportunities and possibilities for others. I cherish her love and friendship and above all I am grateful to
share the space she has enhanced."

About The Artist
Patricia Laspino
"I'm not so concerned with portraying the realistic features of the orchid, but to capture their floral
personalities and sublime presence in the world."
"Some of my first impressions of orchids were not only of their intoxicating beauty, but of the
excitement they generated in people, myself included. Perhaps it  was back then that I
realized that these were no ordinary plants. I began to view orchids differently, to see them
as a vehicle for artistic self expression."
"Ideally, I like to work from life, sketching my subjects to understand their structure and
composition, but more importantly their character. My intensive working drawings ultimately
allow me the freedom to be expressive when it comes time to paint the final floral portrait."
