"Nature is my primary inspiration and I am committed to its aesthetic
and structural revelation to the senses through the medium of the
painted surface. The architecture of the botanical is the fundamental
subject of my creative process - my painting is an act of implication. The
surface appearance of the living flower is made visible by that which lies
just out of sight, the unseen, graceful geometries that support from
within the cellular skin of the surface. As an archeologist brushes away
the millennial dust from over delicate bones, I brush the substance of
floral color as a skin onto the underlying web of living structures. Orchids
are particularly evocative for me. Their animalistic profiles bridge the
space between creature and flower. Their physical features sometimes
appear as doorways, or chambers - passageways to an internal
architecture, to a place of secrets."
"My mission is to create imagery and events in which the fusing of art
and science will reveal previously unseen beauty, in order to create a
sense of wonder, instill a purpose of discovery, appreciation and inspire
action to further the long term stewardship of the natural world."
