Chasen Galleries of Fine Art located in Richmond, Virginia recently hosted a
solo exhibition for Patricia Laspino and the Orchid Alliance Project entitled,
Orchids: Real & Imagined.
The OAP is an important and innovative collaborative Project designed by artist Patricia
Laspino, and Evolution Art Group LLC (EAG) and is endorsed and supported by the
American Orchid Society (AOS) and sponsored by several high profile organizations.
The solo exhibition, ran for a month and featured the orchid art of Patricia Laspino,
provided a rare preview of the larger Orchid Alliance Project, condensed into a more
intimate venue. The collaborative elements key to the Orchid Alliance Project permeated
this exhibition.
The weekend opening events also featured live orchids from renowned orchid grower, Art
Chadwick Jr. of Chadwick & Sons Orchids of Richmond, VA. The Chadwick’s have named
Cattleya hybrids after many high profile women including the wives of the last three U.S.
Presidents, as well as a Vice President, a Prime Minister (Margaret Thatcher), the late
Princess Diana, and Martha Stewart and Oprah Winfrey. A portion of all exhibition
proceeds from the sale of art and orchid plants were donated to the American Orchid
Society, whose mission is to promote and support the passion for orchids through
education, conservation, and research.
